Invitation for submission, deadline: 02/09/2013

The 6th Norsk Informasjons Sikkerhets Konferanse (NISK) will be sponsored by FRISC network and take place from 18/11 to 20/11  in Stavanger. The conference will be collocated with the  Norsk informatikkonferanse (NIK).

NISK brings together people in all areas of Information Security. We hereby encourage researchers, practitioners, Master‐ and PhD students to send in their contributions. All submissions will be reviewed and the accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings by Tapir Akademisk Forlag (both in print and searchable on web). NISK publications give publication points at level 1.

NISK invites for full length article submissions that report ongoing or finished research (maximal 12 pages), or for short papers of early stage work (maximal 4 pages). NISK will also provide room for papers that describe student work up till master thesis level and invites students to send in their contribution. Student submissions can be either long or short papers and up to four accepted student submissions will receive support by exemption of the conference fees.

Articles can be written in Norwegian or English and should be formatted as presented in NISK layout. Submissions must be original and not be published or submitted for publication elsewhere. A link to the system for submission is here. Accepted papers must be presented at the conference. At least one author of each accepted paper must register to attend the conference. Any paper without a registered author will not be included in the Proceedings.

Tutorials / Workshops

NISK also wishes to offer tutorials and workshops in special themes on TBA. Suggestions for such arrangements should mention title of the arrangement, responsible person for leading the arrangement, an estimate of the expected number of participants, and a description of the theme that will be communicated / discussed.

Ph.D. student seminar

There will be a Ph.D. student seminar co-located with NISK probably on 20/11 and 21/11. Exact date, time and programme TBA.

FRISC – Forum for Research and Innovation in Information Security and Communications – organizes a research course in information security at Finse, April 21-26, 2013. The course is open for Ph.D. students in information security as well as for researchers in academia, government and industry in Norway that need an advanced knowledge of information security.

Registration fee for the full course is kr. 4 500 (including full board and lodging). We expect that Ph.D. students in Norway from institutions affiliated with the COINS research school of computer and information security will get their registration fee refunded.

The preliminary list of lecturers that will give a mini-course in a topic of their expertise includes:

Finse is a very beautiful and scenic area close to the Hardangerjøkulen glacier. The winter school is held at the hotel FINSE 1222 (on the railway station Finse) between Bergen and Oslo, 1222 meters above sea level. Finse is located 2.5 hours from Bergen (or 4 hours from Oslo) and can only be reached by train. During the winter school, even if this is the end of April, there is still winter season and excellent skiing conditions. We plan to have talks in the morning and early in the evening with time for skiing in between. For further information on Finse see: http://www.finse.com

Researchers and Ph.D. students that want to attend the research course should fill in the information in the application below. In case of too many applications the organizers will do a final selection. The capacity is limited to about 25 participants. Priority is given to participants attending the full course that starts Sunday April 21 at
20:00 with dinner and ends Friday, April 26 with lunch.

Gregor Leander fra DTU (Danske Tekniske Universitet) presenterte et nytt og inovativt blokk-chiffer (PRINCE) for sanntids applikasjoner hvor det er strenge krav til ventetid. Dag-Arne Osvik presenterte metodikk for raske implementasjoner av krypto i hardware og software. Dag-Arne har blant annet verdensrekorden når det gjelder effektive DES og AES implementasjoner. Leif Nilsen (Thales) presenterte problemstillinger rundt konseptet tilfeldighet i kryptografi. Andrey Bogadnov (DTU) presenterte beviselige skranker på sikkerheten på nøkkel-alternerende chiffer i en beviselig modell. Kristian Gjøsteen (NTNU) presenterte idéer på hvordan man skal kunne modellere realistiske mennesker i protokoller; mennesker oppfører seg jo ikke som datamaskiner. Hans Morten Synstnes (NSM) fortalte litt om norsk kryptohistorie. Han kunne blant annet fortelle spennende historier om rekruteringen av unge matematikere til chifferanalyse før, under og etter krigen. Joe-Kai Tsay (NTNU) modifiserer og forbedrer Bleichenbachers angrep på RSA PKCS#1v1.5 padding som fører til ny og fobedret kryptoanalyse og demonstrerer svakheten ved blant annet det Estiske elektroniske ID-kortet.
